Giants | Saquon Barkley tops in long gains
12 hrs ago footballguys

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley led all running backs with 12 runs of at least 25 yards in 2018. Footballguys View: Barkley can rip off big runs with ease. He did that in college and wasted no time doing the same thing in the pros. Barkley is a top-43 fantasy running back this year and worthy of a top-5 pick in any format. In fact, Barkley is going off the board at RB1 (1.02) in 12-team PPR leagues.

August 6 deadline shouldn’t matter to Ezekiel Elliott
13 hrs ago profootballtalk.com

If Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott holds out of training camp, the first significant date arrives in early August. As noted by Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, failure to report by August 6 results in Elliott forfeiting a year of credit toward free agency. Robinson notes that Elliott is aware of the deadline, which is [more]

Cardinals to face 7 of NFL's top 11 RBs in regular season
5 days ago Cards Wire

Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson did not make a list of the NFL’s top 11 players at his position, but the team will see a whole bunch of those top backs.

Of the top 11 running backs in the league, according to Doug Farrar for sister site Touchdown Wire, the Cardinals will face seven of them in the coming 2019 season in eight games.

They will potentially face an eighth in the preseason.

They will see Chris Carson of the Seattle Seahawks twice, Nick Chubbs and Kareem Hunt of the Cleveland Browns, Todd Gurley of the L.A. Rams twice, Christian McCaffrey of the Carolina Panthers, Alvin Kamara of the New Orleans Saints and Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants

Ranking the top 12 pass-catching running backs in the NFL for 2019
1 day ago Panthers Wire

Christian McCaffrey looks like the best pass-catching running back in the NFL right now on tape. He has some serious competition for that title, though – enough to warrant a deeper look into the numbers.

After some research and deep mid-July film diving, here’s how we rank the top 12 receiving backs in the league going into 2019.

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

2018 receiving stats: 16 games, 124 targets, 107 catches, 86.3% catch rate, 851 yards after catch, 8.1 yards per catch, 6 touchdowns, 0 drop

Bleacher Report pegs landing spots, compensation for Chargers' Melvin Gordon
11 hrs ago Chargers Wire

With training camp closing in, most people only have one thing on their mind and that’s what is in store for Chargers running back Melvin Gordon and his future.

We ran a poll earlier on asking fans what they believe should be the forecast for Gordon and many voted that Los Angeles should trade the former Wisconsin product to another team.

We listed four potential trade suitors for Gordon and it just so happens that Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski drew up five scenarios along with the compensation that L.A. would receive for the Pro Bowl running back

Pro Football Focus: DeAndre Hopkins had a career high passer rating when targeted in 2018
2 days ago Texans Wire

After a 2018 campaign featuring All-Pro nod, a 99 overall rating in Madden 20, and a third Pro-Bowl appearance, Houston Texans wideout DeAndre Hopkins is widely thought of a part of the upper echelon of NFL wide receivers. The receiver dubbed Nuk cemented that legacy in 2018, and Pro Football Focus reaffirms it.

With a full season with Deshaun Watson, DeAndre Hopkins posted a career-best 115.2 passer rating when targeted in 2018! pic.twitter.com/VelFpyADih

David Johnson to see lot of action as receiver
1 day ago fftoday.com

Receiving skills should "come back to the forefront"

It’s been a long time since David Johnson’s dynamic 2016 season and push for a 1,000-1,000 rushing/receiving year ended with a scary knee injury in Los Angeles. His 2017 season was lost to a wrist injury, his 2018 lost to a struggling offense and a struggle knowing how to use his talents. Johnson should fit perfectly into the new Cardinals’ offense, mainly because Johnson remains the team’s best offensive weapon (especially at this point in Murray’s development). The Cards are still going to run the ball and Johnson will be the bellcow. But his receiving skills, all but ignored last season, should come back to the forefront. (AZcardinals.com - Darren Urban)

FF Today's Take: Johnson's goal of a 1,000/1,000 season in 2019 may be lofty, but he's going to have a chance in this offense. He's already signed off on the heavy use of shotgun, which is something he ran out of a lot in college at Northern Iowa. He's well worth a pick in the top half of the first round of most fantasy drafts and a strong candidate to reclaim his spot among the elite fantasy backs.

Davante Adams, David Bakhtiari earned ironman status in 2018
2 days ago Packers Wire

Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams and left tackle David Bakhtiari both earned a special kind of ironman status during the 2018 season.

Pro Football Focus considered both performance and availability in determining an “ironman” player. To make their list, a player had to earn a PFF grade of at least 80.0 while also playing at least 80 percent of a team’s snaps.

Adams and Bakhtiari both qualified as an iron man during the 2018 season. They were among only 16 offensive players to meet both criteria last season (quarterbacks not included)
